Bob Mongrain - Hockey Coach in Visp

Bob Mongrain is currently the Head Coach of the Swiss hockey team EHC Visp Lions. Last year the team won the Swiss second division championship. This year the EHC Visp Lions are again playing at the top of the league. Bob Mongrain was born in Canada and played in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabres. From 1979 until 1984, he played several seasons for Buffalo’s farm team, the Rochester Amerks. In 2002 he was inducted in the Amerks’ Hall of Fame for having scored 153 goals and a total of 339 points, 10th overall in the all times standing. In 1983 his creative work helped the Amerks win the AHL Calder Cup. He then played for the Swiss Kloten Flyers in 1985 where he led the league with 46 goals in 38 games. He returned to the NHL for eleven games with the Los Angeles Kings in 1985-86. Mongrain returned to Switzerland and played five more years before retiring in 1991. After coaching several years in the Quebec Junior Hockey League, he is now a successful Head Coach in Switzerland and he loves living in Valais.
