Around 30 Tourist Offices and tourist sites of the area met in Monthey in order to exchange their promotional brochures prior to the summer season. Business Valais organized the event and invited the Director of the Foundation Barry Rutdolf Thomann to present the activities of the Foundation and the marketing impact that the image of the famous St-Bernard dog has on the tourist destination Verbier-St-Bernard in Valais.
As owner of the breeding kennels of the “Great St. Bernard” since 2005, the Foundation is responsible for the continued management of the over three-century old breed at its place of origin and the preservation of the special type of hospice St. Bernard dog. The St. Bernard is the Swiss national dog. The sire, Barry 1 (1800 – 1814), after which the foundation is named, is said to have saved the life of 40 people and is the most famous member of his breed. The Foundation owns 33 dogs which are showcased in their kennel, at the Musée du St-Bernard in Martigny and in the summer time at the Hospice at the top of the St-Bernard pass at the Swiss-Italian border.
